Women’s Institute For A Secure Retirement

COAD has partnered with WISER to bring a great opportunity to women in Washington and Athens counties.

The Women’s Institute for a Secure Retirement (WISER) launched the Appalachian Savings Project as a pilot project to test the concept that if two existing financial tools were simplified and strengthened—access to electronic U.S. Savings Bonds and the Savers’ Credit (Retirement Contributions’ Savings Credit)—low-wage workers would save more and have the opportunity to increase their financial security. More specifically, the project’s strategy is to increase the financial stability of small business owners, with a focus on the childcare sector in mid-Appalachia. By helping to build secure savings, the project aims to strengthen the viability of these jobs, resulting in less dependence on subsidies and creating a more sustainable economy at both the micro and macro level
