Heading into 2018

2018 is on track to be one of coad4kids busiest and most exciting years. We’ve been selected to administer several programs that will greatly benefit child care providers and the community at large. Check back in the coming weeks as we release plans and details.

Happy New Year!

UPSTART

UPSTART is an in-home, technology-delivered kindergarten readiness program that gives preschool-aged children individualized reading, math and science instruction with a focus on reading. Five COAD area Head Starts worked with UPSTART and coad4kids to register 94 children. Thanks to the Head Starts of Community Action Commission of Belmont County,  Ross County Community Action Commission, Hocking Athens Perry Community Action, Highland County Community Action Organization, Adams-Brown Community Action Partnerships. It would have been impossible without you!

A very busy month at coad4kids!

  • We were very excited to partner with Children’s Defense Fund-Ohio, Foundation for Appalachian Ohio and Battelle for Kids to release Ohio’s Appalachian Children at a Crossroads: A Roadmap for Action.
  • ELRO was launched by OCCRRA to provide a way for providers, administrators and directors to save time and money.
  • We launched a six-part social media series on discussing the news and harsh political rhetoric with children on Facebook and Twitter.
  • We began urging providers to complete the ODJFS 2016 Child Care Market Rate Survey that is of tremendous importance.

Thanks to everyone who made the regional spring conferences so successful. We enjoyed seeing people we know as well as meeting new people at our conferences in New Philadelphia, Portsmouth and Cambridge. We hope to see you again next year.

COAD’s ECE Division is partnering with Child Care Aware of America, the Bezos Family Foundation, and the YWCA of Northwest Ohio to introduce the Vroom project in Ohio. Vroom turns shared moments into brain building moments. Whether it’s mealtime, bath time, or anytime in between, there are always ways to nurture our children’s growing minds. Vroom was developed by a group of dedicated scientists, community leaders, and trusted brands with input from community organizations and families to provide parents and caregivers with ways to boost early learning. COAD ECE Division will be introducing Vroom in Perry County in June. We’ll be working with child care providers and linking parents to free resources and activities that they can use to help their children develop the skills they need to be successful.

Congratulations to ECE’s Portsmouth Office for their continued partnership with United Way of Greater Cincinnati enabling them to provide enhanced training and technical assistance services to child care programs and family child care homes in Brown County.  The initial funding, ending in 2015, was for a period of three years and will now continue through 2018 with the goal of sufficient quality child care for the region.
